From multicultural coexistence to a transcultural team approach
Many organisations are multicultural. Different backgrounds coexist. Diversity is visible.
Some are moving towards an intercultural approach: differences are acknowledged, dialogue takes place, and adjustments are made.
But a transcultural team approach goes further. It is not just about managing differences, but about continuously shaping shared practices through genuine collaboration.
The ELEVATE project’s Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) helps organisations understand where they stand in this process.
It maps organisational and team maturity across three stages:
- Recognise – We identify and acknowledge the differences, dynamics and tensions in the way we work.
- Connect – We actively build bridges and adapt our collaboration.
- Leverage – We flexibly adapt our working methods and embed diversity as a structural strength. Leverage is not a goal to be achieved. It is a state of organisational maturity, a dynamic condition where diversity is already embedded in everyday practices.
The SAT does not assess individuals. It measures existing mechanisms and team practices, in order to establish a clear foundation for structured development.
On 17 March, we will present the tool and the learning pathway based on this approach, because diversity is not the end goal, it is the way we collaborate that makes the difference.
