Marcello Montenero, Business Manager Wholesale COO, HSBC Luxembourg and Pride Lead in Europe, has been recognised as a Future Leader Role Model in the 2024 global list by INvolve - Theinclusion People, supported by YouTube. He is the first non-executive in Luxembourg to receive this distinction—a well-deserved recognition for his significant contribution to LGBTQ+inclusion at work.
What does this recognition mean to you?
"This recognition is deeply meaningful to me. It doesn’t only serve as an acknowledgment of my personal efforts in advancing LGBTQ+inclusion but also as a recognition of the power of community, resilience, and allyship. It reminds me of the journey I’ve taken, shaped by those who believed I could embrace my true self, even when I didn’t realise it was possible. For those reasons, I would like to dedicate this award to my mother, who believed in me from the start, regardless of others’prejudice and to the amazing fellow #HSBCPride volunteers and sponsors in Europe, who have stood by us throughout all our journey toward LGBT+inclusion at HSBC and beyond. It’s a call to continue this work with even more energy, knowing that together we can create spaces where everyone can thrive authentically. Diversity andinclusion are not just ideals I believe in; they are guiding principles in everything I do. My commitment lies in creating environments where everyone, regardless of their background or identity, feels seen, heard, and valued."
What is your role in the Pride ERG Europe, and can you elaborate?
"As part of the Pride Employee Resource Group (ERG) in Europe, my role revolves around driving initiatives that support LGBTQ+inclusion across our organization and beyond. This includes leading projects, organizing events, and collaborating with volunteers and sponsors to create meaningful impacts.
One of my proudest contributions is helping to create spaces where dialogue, education, and visibility can thrive. With the Pride ERG Europe, we focused on fostering awareness, challenging biases, and building bridges across communities. And we would like to go beyond HSBC: PRIDE Luxembourg has also taken an idea through to flourishing execution, by establishing ‘Walk the Talk’, an external network of local major corporates and associations that mobilise the market to champion LGBTQ+inclusion. Several successful events have served as a platform to raise LGBTQ+ awareness and attract prominent speakers and attendees from politics, diplomacy, and finance in Luxembourg resulting in magnificent growth of the network quadrupled in 1.5 years!"
